How To Renew Your Nigerian Passport In The UK.
If you are a Nigerian living in the UK, renewing your passport is clearly a high-priority task when your current one starts nearing its expiration date. However, it can be tedious to find concise information on how to go about doing so.
To help you, we’ve curated the necessary details on how to renew your expired passport below:
Step 1: Visit Nigeria’s high commission London website and tap on “Re-issue of Standard Passport.”
Step 2: Click on “Apply for your passport.” You’ll be redirected to the homepage of the Nigerian Immigration Service. Navigate to the passport section and tap “Apply for Passport Renewal” to start your application.
Step 3: Once you’ve filled in your application details, the next step is making payment. After this, you’ll receive an official acknowledgement with further information on the documents you need to bring for your in-person biometrics at the high commission office.
Tip: Ensure that the name on the credit card you use for payment matches the name on your application.
Step 4: Return to the Nigerian high commission website to book an appointment date and time for your in-person biometrics.
Tip: On your appointment day, get there earlier than your time slot as people are usually attended to on a first-come, first-served basis.
Step 5: Ensure you have printed copies of the following documents with you when you go for your appointment as you won’t be attended to without them:
Your original Nigerian passport.
A copy of your National Identification Number (NIN).
Tip: If you don’t have your NIN, here is a list of enrollment centres in the UK where you can book an appointment to get yours. You’ll need about £40 to book the appointment, and it usually takes about 1 - 2 hours to get it.
A copy of your appointment booking to the High Commission.
A 20-pound postal order payable to the Nigerian High Commission, London.
A special delivery envelope to facilitate the delivery of your passport to your residence.
If everything is in order, you’ll have your biometrics taken and be given a due date for when to expect your passport’s delivery.
Again, the earlier you show up, the quicker you’ll be attended to. Best of luck!
