If you are a Nigerian who lives in Canada, renewing your Nigerian passport is an immediate high-priority task to sort out once your current passport starts nearing its expiration date. To make the process of renewing your passport much easier, we’ve curated a step-by-step guide on how to do so below:
Step 1: Visit Nigeria’s high commission Ottawa website. Tap on the “Citizen Services” dropdown on the home page, and select “Citizen Services - E-passport” from the list of options.
Step 2: On the E-passport page, you'll be shown the guidelines and asked to visit the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) website to fill out your application.
On the NIS website, navigate to the passport section and tap "Apply for Passport Renewal" to start your application.
Step 3: After successfully submitting your application. You’d be provided with a reference number and application ID. Ensure to print them out, and proceed to make your payment, either with your credit card or the money order option.
Step 4: You should receive an email confirming your payment. When you do, return to the NIS homepage, and navigate to the application status section. Then, fill in your application ID and reference number to get a confirmation of your appointment and an appointment date.
Step 5: Ensure you have printed copies of the following documents when you go for your appointment, as you won’t be attended to without them:
Your original Nigerian passport.
Your payment receipt & application confirmation.
Your National Identification Number (NIN)
A Photocopy of the Bio-data page of your Nigerian E-passport.
Two passport photographs of you with a white background.
An administrative fee of CAD 50 in money order payable to the Nigerian High Commission, Ottawa.
A self-addressed Canada post express post envelope with which your new passport will be mailed to you.

Can I apply for a renewal if my passport will expire in the next one year?
This is actually exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for writing this. Thank God for content marketing. One thing that would be helpful to add is how to get an NIN number because many people are telling me we need to also get that first.
Thank you once again, this is super helpful.
