Types of study visas to the UK
There are three types of visas for studying in the UK:
Short-term study visa: This visa is issued to people who want to study an English language course in the UK for a period not longer than 11 months.
Criteria attached to short-term study visas:
You must have been accepted to study an English language course that doesn't last longer than 11 months at an accredited institution.
You must have enough money to support yourself without working.
You cannot change your course at any time while on this visa.
You cannot work (paid/unpaid) or carry out any business on this visa.
You cannot apply for most benefits involving public funds.
You cannot extend this visa.
Required documents to submit for a short-term study visa:
Your passport.
Proof of funds (usually your bank statement for the last six months)
A letter of acceptance from the institution you are planning to study at.
The details of where you plan to stay.
Evidence proving you have paid your course fees or have enough money to pay them.
Your tuberculosis test results.
Fees.
Applying for a short-term study visa costs £200 (about #100,000), and you'll also be required to pay a health surcharge which usually costs £470 (about #237,000)
2. Student visa: This is the more popular study visa. It's for people looking to study a higher education course in the United Kingdom.
Criteria attached to student visas:
You must have enough money to pay for your course and support yourself during your stay there.
You must have proof of knowledge of the English language.
You may be able to work. The exact amount of time you can work for mostly depends on the course you are studying.
You can apply for this visa six months before starting your course. Feedback is usually provided within three weeks.
You can extend a student visa.
After completing your course, you can switch from a student visa to a graduate visa.
You cannot be self-employed under a student visa.
You cannot apply for benefits involving public funds under a student visa.

3. Child Student visa: This visa is typically for people between the age of 4 and 17. The application process for this visa is usually done under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
